Karuna: (Sanskrit), compassion.

Compassion is sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others and self-compassion is extending compassion to one's self in instances of perceived inadequacy, failure, or general suffering. Teaching self-compassion is woven into all the services offered at Karuna: Nutrition + Movement, because we truly feel that without this value, one cannot truly improve health and wellness. Karuna’s goal is to teach children and adults to show more compassion for themselves with a whole-body approach: eating well, moving their bodies, sleeping, and decreasing stress.

Nutrition. Movement. Cooking.

Karuna: Nutrition + Movement is a mind-body practice that currently provides one-on-one nutrition counseling  for families and individuals, children and adults. Our mission is to help client build or re-build a positive relationship with delicious food and bring the fun back to eating while improving health and well-being! Our nutrition appointments are lead by board certified Registered Dietitians and visits are covered by most insurance plans. Coming in early 2019, we will be moving into a new, expanded studio that also offers movement and cooking classes based on our philosophy of self-compassion. ALL of our classes will be offered in a non-competitive, non-judgemental, welcoming environment with goal of promoting the following "whole-body" health initiatives:

  • Development of life-long skills that promote self-reliance

  • Foster self-esteem and sense of achievement

  • Improve cognitive function

  • Encourage creativity and individuality

  • Learn self-compassion

We welcome all ages, shapes and sizes.

This is a community and we're here to build each other up! End of story. We want EVERYONE to feel comfortable walking in our doors and learning how to treat their bodies better, no matter where they're starting from. Classes are designed for all skills levels, and all practitioners are trained to meet our clients where they're at. Does this sound like you??

  • There's just no time to cook dinner!

  • How do I get my kids to eat vegetables?

  • I don't even know how to cook pasta!

  • We're so over baked chicken.

  • Hummus what??

  • I have no idea what to do in a gym

  • I am way too intimidated to go to a bootcamp class - heck no!

  • I have chronic back issues and can't find a class that fits my needs

  • My child doesn't like team sports and we can't find a fun way for her to move her body

  • I have a history of disordered eating and I need support getting back on track

  • My teen doesn't like ANYTHING -- help!

  • My doctor just told me I have high cholesterol and I have no idea what to eat.

Sorry, no diets here!

We are SO over diets. If any one diet worked, there wouldn't be so many! Research has PROVED this, and we are all about scientific, evidence-based recommendations in our practice. We work with each client to educate and set individualized goals and based on their history and medical conditions. This is true in our nutrition counseling and also in our classes. Our philosophy is based around body positivity, building confidence and improving self-compassion. Calorie-talk, restrictive dieting, and shaming ourself just don't support this. Let's find a better way, together.
